Located in La Jolla, California, Darlington House is a historic wedding venue. It was first built in 1925 as a summer home, and now is owned and operated by the Social Service League of La Jolla. The Pacific Ocean is just a short walk away, well-suited to couples who might want beachside wedding photos. The house has an eclectic style throughout, to fit all manner of tastes. Couples can choose between a selection of unique outdoor event spaces to host their ceremony and reception. Pre-wedding gatherings, such as engagement parties, wedding showers, and rehearsal dinners are also welcome here.

Business Hours

Reception-Only events may upgrade for use of the second floor and/or early wedding party arrival. While we love our furry friends, our designation as a historic property prohibits pets. Service animals are always welcome, but we do appreciate a heads-up if they will be on property for your event.

Palmer to design a central structure to join the two small existing structures on the site. Richard Requa, eminent authority on Spanish architecture, was chosen in 1931 to create the library wing, Andalusian Patio, and Egyptian Patio. Local Master Architect Thomas Shepherd modified the front of the house and added the second story and curving staircase in 1940. Perhaps the most important, and highly anticipated part of this day was the party. Courtney and Jack have been together over ten years, and over that time have made so many close friends together. Everyone was so excited to see these two finally get married, and it showed in how lively and joyful every part of the day was (seriously, go look at the photos from cocktail hour and the reception especially). One of their oldest and best friends officiated what would become the most hilarious wedding ceremony I’ve ever witnessed (he began by reading what Courtney wrote in his middle school yearbook, and it only got better from there). An event coordinator is encouraged to help the celebration run smoothly, while valet parking is recommended for added convenience. From here, the newlyweds and their guests can retire to the Andalusian Patio and adjoining library for a cocktail reception. Once they have made their toasts, the party can then move past elegant wrought iron gates to the immaculately maintained Rose Garden. This garden can also be used for larger ceremonies and receptions of 200 guests. When couples rent the house for their magical milestone, they and their guests also gain access to the first floor of the house and the kitchen. The to-be-weds and their party are also welcome to use the upstairs suites to prepare for the day ahead.
