The history of the property was nice and the staff was amazing. The union’s last defeat at VW in Chattanooga came at a low-water mark — in the middle of a federal investigation into bribery and embezzlement under a previous president. Late last year, the UAW announced a drive to represent nearly 150,000 workers at non-union factories largely in the South. The union is targeting U.S. plants run by Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW and Volvo, along with factories operated by electric-vehicle makers Tesla, Rivian and Lucid.

The Read House Hotel in Chattanooga – One of the Southeast’s Most Mysterious Ghost Stories

The feeling of openness was nice, but I didn’t need all that room. There was a large bathroom with a long vanity and a lighted magnifying mirror. The room had a tiled walk-in shower, and no tub, which I’m finding is becoming standard with most hotel rooms these days unless they’re older or at the highest level of luxury. There’s an electric shuttle that runs through downtown and stops right across the street from the hotel.

Our Rich History

We can only assume that these shadowy spirits are none other than the residual energy of the soldiers who may have spent their last moments at the Read House when it operated as a Civil War hospital. The hotel offers valet parking for $24 per day, which doesn’t include tipping the valet. There’s no dedicated free self-parking, although there are parking lots and garages throughout downtown.

The union’s president, Sara Nelson, said she was not surprised at the UAW win after strikes that led to record contracts last year. “Now the public and media eyes are going to be on Chattanooga and how quickly the UAW can translate this into a contract,” he said. If the union can’t quickly get a good contract, it risks losing some of the momentum it gained with Friday’s election win, he said. "The Commons is more than just brick and mortar," Silverdale Baptist Church's senior pastor, Tony Walliser, said during the groundbreaking ceremony. "It symbolizes our commitment to a well-rounded education. ... We want you as students to not only have an intellectually excellent education, but we also want you to know how to practically navigate through life." The property is located at 107 W Mlk Blvd in Chattanooga.

The Read House Hotel is the longest continuously operated hotel in the South—it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022. The story of The Read House parallels the history of Chattanooga itself. It holds within its glowing hallways and lush velvet-draped chambers the echoes of bygone eras, hushed murmurs of antebellum splendor, and echoes of post-war sorrow.

At night, The Read House Hotel glimmers under the starry night--a beacon to all who wish to waltz through its doors and discover what Chattanooga offered during the illustrious Gilded Age of the early 1900s. Silver sconces, elaborately prepared meals in the famous Porterhouse restaurant. I establish connections with my readers by sharing travel and lifestyle content that encourages them to enjoy adventures together and to make the small moments count.

The Read House, Downtown City Center (Hotel), Chattanooga (USA) Deals

I divided my three-and-a-half days in Chattanooga with downtown activities and more active pursuits around the Lookout Mountain area, which is about six miles from downtown Chattanooga. I loved being able to walk or take the free shuttle around downtown Chattanooga. The city is easy to navigate on foot, and if you’re up for walking a mile or so, you can get to a lot of cool places in the city. The Read House Hotel is located at 107 MLK Blvd. in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. If you’re flying into Chattanooga, the hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the airport. If you want luxury and comfort at a mid-range hotel price in a central location, The Read House is a Chattanooga hotel to put on your idea list for where to stay in Chattanooga.

The only room in Read House with a physical key.

Go out the side entrance where the restaurants are and you’ll see the shuttle stop. The shuttles are clean and convenient if you’re flexible on time, but overall, I found the wait time longer than what was posted. Bridgeman’s Chop House is the hotel’s premier on-site restaurant. The sophisticated setting – think dark wood walls, elegant white tablecloths, and waitstaff in dapper uniforms – sets the tone for a “treat yourself” style meal. The beds were amazing...so comfortable and the pillows were equally plush. And lastly we required assistance to and from our room because we were traveling with my elderly mother.

Learn more about Chattanooga’s ghosts with Chattanooga Ghost Tours. Room 311 is available for rent on Saturday nights in October and on Halloween night. According to Jim Bambrey, Read House Hotel General Manager, the October reservations sell out within five minutes after being open to the public.

The menu includes a selection of raw and chilled seafood, wet and dry-aged steaks, and other specialty dishes such as lamb, veal, and seafood. If you’re in the mood for dessert or an indulgent after-dinner drink, Bridgeman’s won’t let you down there. I don’t necessarily believe in ghosts, but I don’t disbelieve anything. Even though I was assured Annalisa Netherly’s ghost doesn’t roam beyond room 311, and my room was nowhere near that part of the hotel, I had a fairly sleepless night after touring her room on the last night. The menu includes a selection of raw and chilled seafood, wet and dry-aged steaks, and other specialty dishes such as lamb, veal, and seafood. Inquire at the desk about guided tour availability, and if staff is available to give you a look, you can go in and take pictures.

Chattanooga's Read House celebrates 150 years as longest continuously operated hotel in the South

reed house chattanooga

Set in Chattanooga, The Read House, Downtown City Center offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. Lookout Mountain is 3.1 mi away.A flat-screen TV with cable is featured in every room of this Chattanooga hotel as well as free WiFi. Great location with an efficient, friendly & competent staff. Room was good size & comfortable, bathroom was large with nice amenities. At our historic Chattanooga hotel, we specialize in 1920s splendor while catering to modern tastes. The Read House is a dazzling Jazz-era gem with the trappings of a new hotel.

Location

Until it was her suitor who turned to other women and abandoned Annalisa at the hotel. In this version of the tale, poor Annalisa Netherly died of a heartbroken heart in Room 311. The final construction was a ten-floor, Georgian-style hotel that paid homage to its predecessor. The architects did their best to incorporate some of the fine decor that the first Read House Hotel had boasted. Some pieces, however--like the massive mahogany bar--were unfortunate victims of time and were never replaced.

How much does it cost to stay at The Read House, Downtown City Center?

The elegant lobby sets the tone for your Read House experience. Marble floors, the hotel’s original crystal chandeliers, and plush 1920s-style furniture make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The uniforms of the hotel personnel stay true to the period. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen hotel housekeeping with a knee-length black dress with a ruffled apron.

'25 - New Building Begins

The Manor House is the newer part of the hotel, and while you can tell what’s newer while viewing the building from the exterior, the interior transitions are seamless. If you like a hotel that packs some history (and maybe a ghost or two), then Read House is for you. It started as a rooming house in the 1840s and has also been a  drugstore that sold Coca-Cola and rented rooms before assuming the name of Read House in 1926. Welcome to a blog series delving into the intriguing historical gems scattered around Chattanooga. Explore the stories that make up this city’s rich past and form its culture of today. A venerable roster of dignitaries and notables paraded through its hallowed corridors.

'94 - Lost History

In 1926, the Read House re-opened after a major transformation, the older parts of the hotel were stripped away and ten stories were added, with a design scheme influenced by the Palmer House in Chicago. During this period, it became a popular destination for travelers and was known for its luxurious accommodations and fine dining in the city’s center. She said VW workers saw the governors’ open letter as “an empty threat and a cynical ploy,” and they ignored it.

The White House issued a statement from President Joe Biden congratulating the UAW. Nelson is trying to secure an industry-leading contract at United Airlines that she can use to court Delta crews. In the meantime, crews at startup Breeze Airways, many of whom live in the South, will vote next month whether to join her union. The Association of Flight Attendants, which has tried and failed to win over cabin crews at Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, hopes to collect enough signatures to force another election at Delta by year end.

Bar and Billiards

Spending the night in a haunted hotel on a solo trip would not have been my first choice but I came away unscathed. The Read House has 241 guest rooms and suites divided between the Historic Tower, which is the original hotel building, and the newer Manor House. While you can tell what’s newer while viewing the building from the exterior, the interior transitions are seamless. I have nothing negative to say, and I recommend this beautiful hotel in the heart of downtown Chattanooga to all types of travelers who want to be close to the action in downtown Chattanooga.

First Read House Hotel

We have more than 70 million property reviews, all from real, verified guests. The Read House is the longest continuously operating hotel in the southeast, and holds a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel has endured floods, The Civil War, epidemics, the Great Depression and an ever-changing Chattanooga. Biden criticized six Southern Republican governors, including Bill Lee of Tennessee, who told autoworkers this week that voting for union representation would jeopardize jobs.

However, the UAW is likely to face a tougher test as it tries to represent workers at two Mercedes-Benz plants in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A five-day election is scheduled to start May 13, where the union’s campaign has already become heated. Silverdale Baptist leaders and community members joined the school's student body on the football field to commemorate the groundbreaking Wednesday. Silverdale Baptist Academy broke ground Wednesday on a new academic building, The Commons, as part of an effort to expand the campus and prepare students to be workforce leaders. And, if you’re feeling brave enough, request Room 311 for your own chance to meet the ghost of Annalisa Netherly.

Rutherford B. Hayes, Mexican President Miguel Aleman, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Andrew Jackson all spent nights in the suites. Luminous stars such as Bette Davis, Liberace, and Bob Hope kindled the night's fervor with their brilliance. Even the notorious Al Capone found himself in the hotel's custody, a pause in his tumultuous journey. The merging of the Western and Atlantic Rail Roads in the mid-1800s made Chattanooga much more accessible. Goods could be transported East to West, through Appalachia. With the influx of passengers and goods moving through, the city needed a hotel.

The Read House’s speakeasy-style bar sits just off the lobby and serves lunch and dinner. Like all good speakeasies, the billiard table is tucked in the back behind pocket doors. My door had a privacy feature where I could flip a switch and let housekeeping know not to knock versus having to manually put out a do not disturb sign. Housekeeping did not replace the water, but I got complimentary bottled water from the front desk for the duration of my stay. The premier rooms have more floor space and larger, black and white marble tiled bathrooms. The Read House has 241 guest rooms and suites divided between the Historic Tower and the Manor House.

The water eventually receded, but the building would not last the year, and burned to the ground a short time later. The hotel is gorgeous and we loved both the facilities and the location downtown. A draw when booking is the indoor heated pool advertised, however, it’s not very warm and much in need of a renovation.

Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes Nudegasm Bronze, Sculpt & Glow Face Palette

charlotte tilbury nudegasm palette

Nudegasm (Multi-Glow) is a medium, coppery-orange with warm undertones and fine, gold pearl throughout that gave it a luminous glow on the skin. It had opaque color coverage, though the texture was firmer and a little stiffer, which became more yielding after a few uses but be careful when finger-swatching as it may compact the product further. Nudegasm (Super Glow) is a light, peachy gold with strong, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage with a smooth, slightly firmer texture, but it picked up evenly with a moderately-dense brush and blended out with ease. The highlighter didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture and lasted well for eight and a half hours on my skin.

The Dupe List™

So maybe this is her making up for the fact that she hardly releases any palettes that is brown girls can wear. With four universally flattering nude shades in three textures, Charlotte Tilbury Nudegasm Face Palette brings star power to makeup. Formulated with finely milled particles, smoothing polymers, and pearl pigments, which glide over the skin for a lustrous finish.

Charlotte Tilbury Nudegasm Collection Swatches

Difficult to do a precise Cupid’s now because it’s not sharp enough. The color is lighter and more peach/salmon than I thought it would be, it looks a bit chalky on my skin (light-medium with pink undertones). Not quite the holy grail lipliner I was hoping for! But, it serves its purpose and I do wear it from time to time. I agree but to their defense, most of Charlottes palettes are for light to medium skin. Like the two all in one palettes she just released. I can’t wear either one because they are too light and im not even deep toned.

Glowgasm Face Palette

That pink duochrome shade was unique and ethereal on my skin and I used that palette nonstop for a few months.Alas, this does look too deep and too warm for fair skinned ladies, so I’ll have to pass. I could probably make it work, just to look at that pretty packaging, but not sure I want to work that hard when I have other face palettes that will do the trick perfectly. Pillow Talk is a medium-dark pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. The color was consistent with the standalone version I have of this shade. It had good pigmentation with a soft, lightly waxy texture that applied fairly well to bare skin for all-over color application and was even easier to use strictly as a liner. It stayed on well for over six hours and was non-drying.

She is famous, like Dolly Parton, for sleeping in her makeup. Her eyes sparkle as she speaks with the runaway, chatty energy of a hostess welcoming you to a party. Her outsize personality is lovingly parodied on TikTok, and she’s prone to referencing the stars—both longtime friends like Kate Moss, her children’s godmother, and those twinkling in the cosmos—as well as energy frequencies. Tilbury says, “I don’t want to see invisible women,” so her products make eyes look brighter and complexions more dewy, and are known for creating an intensely glamorous effect.

Complete your look with this magical makeup kit...

This was the least warm-toned shade that I've swatched within the formula, so I could see it being more versatile across undertones as a result. The texture was smooth, lightweight, thin, and fluid without being watery (more like a cross between water and gel), which helped it blend well with moisturizer, primer, or foundation or be spread across larger areas (like all over the face). The doe-foot applicator made getting just a touch out easier for highlighting the high points of the face, though it was less useful for getting product for mixing in. Nudegasm (Sculpt) is a light-medium brown with muted, almost yellowy-olive undertones and a matte finish. It had a very firm, stiff texture that I had to really dig at to loosen product, which yielded more medium, buildable coverage in practice. The powder was blendable and applied evenly to bare skin, but it required some effort to get it out of the pan itself initially.

SEE IT ON YOUR SKINTONE

Make up artists don’t come much more legendary than Charlotte Tilbury; with twenty years in the industry, she’s a true trailblazer, creating looks for some of film and fashion’s most iconic faces, and distilling her expertise into a line of luxury make up. The latest release to captivate us, the Super Nudes collection celebrates easy-to-wear neutral make up that everyone, everywhere will worship. From '90s-inspired nude lipsticks to endlessly glowy face palettes, these runway-ready arrivals are destined for your make up bag... I bought this on release but should have waited for your review only 2 shades work for me. I enjoyed the darker Glowgasm palette except the too light bronzer this palette feels like a step back for the brand who could do light, medium, and deep palettes. I can’t express how much I appreciate you discussing inclusivity in beauty.

Christine Mielke is the editor-in-chief and has been reviewing products for over 14 years. • on my training day I asked where the hair for the brushes came from.. They said Charlotte tilbury was a cruelty free brand but the brushes I was holding were clearly animal hair, I tested this too much later by cutting off some of the brush hair and burning it and it did not singe like synthetic hair brushes. The woman training us was just very rude and sarcastic with her response and ultimately avoided the question. •they asked for you to dress ‘seductively’ and encouraged you wearing heels. Now I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t happy dressing seductively for work and then having to travel home at night alone.

It was ever-so-slightly firmer than the average gel-powder hybrid formula, which already require using a denser, slightly more moderate-to-heavy hand approach (but then they have no powderiness and seem to “melt” on skin a bit). The powder, once loosened from the pan, applied beautifully to bare skin and blended out well without emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading visibly. I like most of my products from CT, most of the time I find nothing in the collections though. I have a few LE lipsticks that I love, these new ones will not join my stash.

We're proud to say that all customer reviews are independent, authentic and do not represent the views of Cult Beauty or The Hut Group. I agree 100% with your criticisms of the shade range. It’s the first face palette I’ve seen and gone “yes! ”, but my old nemesis dimethicone means I’ll be passing. Dries down to an opaque waterproof finish very quickly, which means you need to get it right the first time. Not buildable because it’s impossible to add a second coat once it dries. But, the first coat is pigmented enough that you won’t need a second. Difficult to sharpen to a fine point due to the formula and the plastic (not wood) encasing. I can only get it to a blunt point and it keeps sliding out of the encasing and falling out.

However, it doesn’t make sense to have a shimmery blush when there’s also a highlighter in the palette. Would be much more usable if the blush was matte or natural finish and I could layer the highlighter as required. Cast a sun-kissed glow on the complexion with Charlotte Tilbury Nudegasm Face Palette, a set of four flattering makeup shades designed to highlight, sculpt and contour the features. For the latest information, it is recommended to review the ingredient list printed on the packaging of the product prior to usage or consumption.

Nudegasm (Super Sculpt) is a dark brown with warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque, buildable pigmentation paired with a slightly firmer, somewhat stiff consistency. I found it seemed to yield more product readily after a few uses, but it sometimes required some pushing to dislodge powder from the pan's surface, which made it harder to control how much product I picked up each time. Once applied, the powder blended out without too much effort and wore well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably. I found it seemed to yield more product readily after a few uses, but it sometimes required some pushing to dislodge powder from the pan’s surface, which made it harder to control how much product I picked up each time.

In addition to contributing to CarsDirect, Justin also hosts a web-series car-review show and dabbles in the world of personal-finance writing. As the Lexus drove off, that delivery driver followed the car for several blocks and watched as the dog gave chase and desperately tried to jump back into the car. Eventually the Lexus sped off at Cherry Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, leaving the dog behind. The video was recorded by a food delivery driver who said she saw someone in a Lexus push the dog out of the car.

In-house car financing dealerships, also known as buy here pay here (BHPH) dealers, are spread out all over Los Angeles. They typically offer auto loans without running credit checks, which makes it easier for consumers with bad credit to get approved. What does it take to get an in-house car finance loan near Los Angeles? In-house financing dealerships, commonly called “buy-here, pay-here” dealerships, offer financing directly to car buyers.

If anything is missing or documented incorrectly, you need to have it corrected, or you may even want to walk away from the deal.

Additionally, if you make your payments when they are due for a reasonable period of time, the dealership may allow you to refinance and reduce your rate. In-house financing is basically auto-financing that is done at the dealership, and through the dealership itself. If you have bad credit, think about applying with an online lender instead. Or see if you qualify for dealer financing at a traditional car lot. Dealer-arranged financing is not the same as in-house financing, but the process is similar.

If you’re in the market for something more understated, we also have a great selection of high quality, great performance vehicles, such as Dodge, Chevy, Honda, and Ford. At Hawthorne Auto Square, we’re proud of our great customer service. Our dedicated staff works hard to make sure that each customer who comes through the door finds the perfect used car for them. Customers who have visited our Los Angeles used car dealership usually finds that our financing options allow them to finally afford their dream cars.

Between our quality selection, available financing, and accommodating way of doing business, our vehicles come in and out pretty quickly. These loans come with high interest rates, sometimes at predatory levels. Also, in-house financing can increase your chances of ending up upside down on your loan — partly because the cars are older, and partly because the loans are so expensive. Once you’ve improved your credit, you could qualify for traditional financing with better terms.

The Advantages of In-House FinancingDespite the potential for negative financial consequences, purchasing a vehicle with an in-house loan can be a positive experience. For one, this type of financing can generally be trusted as long as you pay close attention to what you are signing. Additionally, this type of financing can get you into the car you need when reasonable alternatives do not exist. Because in-house financing often involves some risk on the side of the dealer, these sorts of loans almost always result in higher interest rates than these other options. Before signing on for such a loan, there are several things you should be aware of.

As long as you’re a member, you might qualify for a credit union auto loan. Credit unions are nonprofit organizations, and many are dedicated to their members’ financial wellbeing. As a result, they may be willing to work with their credit-challenged members. But traditional lenders sometimes seem to have missed the memo. They often overlook the “credit-challenged” – a fancy term for folks who’ve had a rough financial patch.

Buying used is a sound way to purchase your next vehicle because you will be receiving a high quality for a fraction of the sticker price. We make sure that you’re getting a model that performs excellently, as well. While an in-house financing dealership may seem like your only option to buy a car if you have no credit or iffy credit, you should definitely check other options first.

Upside-down car loans are more likely if the car is older or not in perfect condition (because they aren’t worth as much). Plus, in-house loans have high interest, causing you to owe more than if you’d borrowed from a traditional lender. First, you’ll likely pay a higher interest rate than you would with a traditional car loan. The loan may even be a precomputed interest loan, which can be a big financial pitfall. Since in-house car finance dealerships are also the lenders, you should be aware of what your rights are with a buy here pay here dealer and what they can and can’t do. Financing a used car is the most practical method of attaining a motor vehicle to the vast majority of Americans.

The incident occurred shortly after a full jury of 12 people and six alternates had been seated in Trump’s hush money case, the first criminal trial of a former U.S. president. The flames continued to burn for a few minutes before a New York police officer ran toward Azzarello with a fire extinguisher. Four officers suffered minor injuries putting out the flames. Maddrey said people used coats and fire extinguishers to help quell the flames. “He lights himself on fire,” Maddrey said during a news conference Friday afternoon. The man who set himself on fire Friday outside the New York City courthouse where former President Trump is on trial died of his extensive injuries, authorities said.

They really watch out for u and make good deals with the cleint. Bank loans tend to have competitive rates and are far superior to in-house financing. Even so, leave in-house financing as a last resort, and know what you’re getting into before signing.

At 75, Charlotte Rampling Remains An Icon Of Classic French Style

She won many awards for her performance in "45 Years" - and now she might also get an Oscar. Here's a look back at a career characterized by mysterious sex appeal. Hers, in other words, is the story of a real-life heroine.

Unseen photo of William and Kate’s wedding released to mark 13 years of marriage

Both Rampling and her father hid the cause of Sarah’s death from her mother. It is more than possible that film producers sensed this hidden darkness in Rampling and chose her for multidimensional, grave, sometimes decadent roles. Because its core meaning pivots on a small revelation so quick not everyone will see it, I don’t want to describe the story further.

Actress

They so love beauty and they so love what they’re doing, they so love the actual art of filmmaking. I don’t think Fellini’s films or Visconti’s films ever made any money. It was so different from the way the English and the Americans were working, there was such passion.

h Berlinale awards meet up to the festival's political reputation

Even earlier as a mere 14 year old, Rampling performed with her sister Sarah in their own cabaret act. Some reviewers attribute this ability to her mysterious, preternatural charisma and abiding beauty, and that is part of it. But it is also her actively focused talent for the natural representation of real people. We don’t notice how expressive ordinary people are unless we love them enough (or are frightened enough by them) to pay real attention. But everyone is uniquely expressive, even in the smallest gestures. We are so immersed in the parade of character in daily life that we don’t typically see this unless it startles us; we don’t have time to notice all the things that people are telling us.

Charlotte Rampling: ‘I am prickly. People who are prickly can’t be hurt any more’

She shared an apartment with Southcombe and Randall Lawrence, a male model. The inevitable “ménage à trois” label was used liberally by the press. They divorced in 1976 and two years later Rampling married the hugely successful French composer Jean-Michel Jarre. Tabloid stories of Jarre’s affairs with other women proved too demeaning for Rampling and the marriage was dissolved in 1997, their divorce finalized in 2002.

Maybe that is when she looked directly at me for the first time; I’m not sure. I probably don’t remember, because even when she didn’t meet my gaze, she felt more present than most people. Eyes up or down, she smiled easily, especially when I mentioned one of her more obscure films, ‘‘Max Mon Amour,’’ in which she plays a diplomat’s wife having an affair with a chimpanzee. The story is a delightful evocation of blunt, innocent feeling up against the hard norms of human society. It’s something like the anti-‘‘King Kong,’’ for although attempts are made on Max’s life, in the end he’s riding through Paris on the top of the family car, being cheered by crowds. Part of her darkness came, no doubt, from the suicide of her sister Sarah at the age of 23.

She first appeared an extra in The Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night" (1964) and her official credited debut was a year later in the British comedy "Rotten to the Core" (1965). A few years into her acting career, she became a favorite of the '70s European indie film scene, with notable controversial roles in "The Damned" (1969), "The Night Porter" (1974), and "Max, Mon Amour" (1986). She made a dent in American film as well, with a role in the Woody Allen film "Stardust Memories" (1980), the Sean Connery-starring sci-fi flick "Zardoz" (1974), and the Raymond Chandler adaptation "Farewell, My Lovely" (1975).

For the first time ever, ‘Blood In Blood Out’ will be available for streaming

The following year, Rampling starred opposite Tom Courtenay in the film 45 Years and garnered a slew of award nominations including best actress at the Academy Awards (Brie Larson was the eventual winner). By the time this year’s festival is over, you can be sure there will be plenty more to add to the list. I think you have to think of being; I think you have to think of being someone. If you’re an actor, you’re going to incarnate a human being. If you are brave and if you want to actually experience what it is like, really, you have to be a developing actor and a developing human being at the same time, because the two things are always together. You can’t develop as a human being and not develop as an actor and vice-versa.

Rampling has received a number of honors and awards. She was made an OBE in 2000 for her services to the arts; she received an Honorary Cesar in 2001; France’s Legion d’Honneur in 2002; a Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Film Awards in 2015. She was awarded the 2017 Volpi Cup for best actress at the 74th Venice International Film Festival. Quite a lot of things were experimental, I suppose. I don’t know whether I’ve got it now, but never mind – I had it! ” Randall went his own way after she married Southcombe, and they lost touch.

Charlotte Rampling’s reputation doesn’t entirely make sense. She is an actress of extraordinary intelligence and sensitivity, with a rare, charismatic beauty and sexual force that has lasted well into her 60s. Charlotte Rampling grew up in England in the 1940s and 1950s, spending ample time across Europe. In her late teens, she began a career as a model, which quickly led to her being noticed and appearing many movies and TV shows.

She appeared in the cult classic Vanishing Point, in a scene deleted from the U.S. theatrical release (included in the U.K. release). Lead actor Barry Newman remarked that the scene was of aid in the allegorical lilt of the film. On the red carpet, the actor was almost always seen in black, whether in floor-sweeping coat dresses or chic two-piece suits, with soft waves in her shoulder length locks. Courtenay noted that “45 Years” has similarities to the story of his 27-year marriage to his wife, Isabelle, who was a stage manager when he was doing the play “The Dresser.” They are childless, and like Kate and Geoff they have a dog. Geoff becomes obsessed with Katya and spends time in the attic looking at the pictures and slides he had of his time with her. He even begins smoking, which he had quit since his heart surgery.

Having started acting in her teens, the British beauty’s career has spanned more than seven decades. During that time she’s adapted her looks to suit current trends, but has always stayed true to her personal style. We’re all vain, we’re all narcissistic, we don’t like to grow old. We are young at one stage and then we’re getting older as nature will have us. Those things should not even come into your horizon as an actor because if you sit back and say, “Oh I don’t want that role because I won’t look pretty,” then you’re not going to have much work coming your way.

After some dreary years in the Civil Service, Marilyn realized her dream of living in Paris. She arrived in Paris in December 1967 and left in July 1969. From there she lived in Mallorca, London, Oman, and Dubai, where she moved with her husband and young son and worked for Gulf News, Khaleej Times and freelanced for Emirates Woman magazine.

In 2019, it was accounced that she would co-star in Denis Villeneuve's remake of "Dune" (2020). At the age of 69, actress Charlotte Rampling has been able to keep her street cred intact in both the film industry and the theatre. She’s worked with cinematic masters such as Luchino Visconti and Woody Allen, and is brave enough to bring Sylvia Plath’s poetry to life on stage (a performance that headlines at Toronto’s Luminato festival next week).

What the Sphynx cat breed lacks in fur, they make up for in their personality. The curious kitties are mischievous and are fond of teaser toys and puzzle toys to challenge them. Though Sphynx cats appear to look bald, they may be covered in a small amount of peach fuzz, giving them that velvety texture. However, they do require moderate grooming to care for their hairless bodies as they do not have fur to absorb natural oils their body produces.

Personality Traits

This outgoing breed is notoriously vocal and loves to play and socialize. This cat will demand attention and loves to follow their owners around the house. They are safe for families with young children and do well with other pets. A mix of Micky Mouse and your favorite feline, round-eared cats have taken the internet by storm. Find out all you need to know about cats with round ears in the article below.

Here are seven breeds of spotted domestic cats to help you find your next speckled feline friend. As you can see from this list, there’s no shortage of big cat breeds out there for cat lovers. All that’s left now is to make the choice of which of the large house cat breeds you want, but you’re guaranteed a great pet, whichever unique feline you pick. Their markings are distributed across their bodies – and each hair on their coat contains more than one color. Cat breed associations are tasked with the formal acknowledgment of cat breeds.

Devon Rex cats come from England and are recognized for their faerie or pixie-like appearance. Cat breeds with big ears often have very individual looks, but the Devon Rex is a cat whose large ears are shaped so strangely that they’ve almost become one ear. The Cornish Rex is an interesting breed because they’re almost mouse or rat-like in appearance. They’re hairless cats for the most part, with just a fine amount of downy fur to cover their skin. These domestic cats are a playful cat breed, always ready for an adventure.

#1 Sphynx

Cats with large ears have a charm that not only resonates with feline enthusiasts but also speaks to the primal ancestry of these domestic pets. The oversized ears on certain cat breeds are not just a distinctive aesthetic trait; they also serve practical functions. They can improve a cat’s hearing abilities, allowing them to detect even the most subtle sounds—a necessity for survival in the wild. Its luxurious coat and flat face have made it a favorite among cat lovers for centuries. With its loving nature, thick fur, and calm demeanor, this breed makes a great family pet. The Persian is an easy-going breed that loves to cuddle with its owners and enjoy the company of other cats.

Most well-known for its coat or lack thereof, the Sphynx is a medium-sized, truly unique breed of cat. With their characteristic wrinkly skin, slender bodies, and large, oversized ears, they are one of the most recognizable breeds around. They are energetic and playful cats that love to be close to their owners and can be fairly demanding of attention. They bond strongly with their owners and are known to follow their human companions around the home just like dogs. Best of all, they are generally healthy and hardy cats that have relatively few health problems. They often have bright blue eyes, and light fur with dark points around the face, ears, and paws.

Breed Overview

When it comes to cats, there’s one breed that stands out with its big ears and charming personality. The British Shorthair is a small cat that has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its unique look and friendly nature. The Norwegian Forest Cat is an amazing breed of cat that has grown increasingly popular over time. With its long coat, unique markings, and large ears, it’s no wonder why so many people are drawn to this breed.

Whether you choose a Sphynx, Savannah, or Ocicat, you’ll have a loyal friend that loves spending time with the family. All the long-eared cats have different care requirements, but they typically need daily human interactions to stay healthy and happy. If your family likes staying close to home, a big-eared cat may be the perfect pet. The Ocicat looks like a wild beast, but it’s 100% domesticated and does not have wild cat DNA. The Siamese, Abyssinian, and American Shorthair breeds were used to develop the Ocicat, but it has a personality all its own.

This is a devoted and loyal breed that also often enjoys going out on walks. They are high energy and highly intelligent, so they need lots of stimuli. They don’t have any special exercise needs, and unlike many other cat breeds, they like water, so watch out if you’re having a bath. They can be great companions and make an excellent pet for anybody who is looking for an animal to keep around that is fun and easy to take care of. Identifying a cat breed by its ear size and shape involves observing the ear’s length, width, placement on the head, and whether they stand erect or fold over.

Now that you’ve learned about various big-eared cat breeds and how to care for them, you may be considering welcoming one into your home. Here we’ll discuss some factors to consider when choosing the right big-eared cat breed for your lifestyle. Big ears can be a beautiful feature in cats, but they may also require some special care. This section covers the essentials of caring for your big-eared feline friend, focusing on health and grooming practices to keep them in tip-top shape. This Australian bred cat has big ears, but they might not seem as proportionately long when you look at their eyes which are equally large and beautiful. They look at little like a chocolate cream Bengal cat with an even more faded look, the reason for their ‘mist’ name.

These are playful cats that want nothing more than to play hunting games with you, get lots of attention, and be praised for their tabby cat looks. There are over 20 common cat breeds where big ears are one of their main features. In this article, we put together a list of 12 cat breeds that are known for long, big ears, and what we love about them. The Oriental is the close cousin of the Siamese cat, and the two breeds share many similarities in character. The Oriental is a highly talkative breed and is known to vocalize their every need in a loud and raspy voice.

They are known for forming powerful bonds with a single family member and are fairly shy and wary of new faces. That said, they are known for being great family pets and will gladly play with children and other pets when it suits them. They typically have a long and silky coat in a wide variety of colors and patterns, including tabby and tortoiseshell.

9 Big-Eared Cat Breeds That You'll Love

The so-called ‘werewolf’ cat is one of the most fascinating cats to have been developed over the last few years. Only dating back as recently as 2010, the Lykoi breed has an odd coat. They are sometimes completely or partially hairless, but not always forever. This is because their coat can grow back seasonally when they are older. While this phenomenon is little understood, the result is a look which makes them resemble the fictional werewolf. This breed is a result of a cross between domestic cats and a Serval, an African wild cat.

Peterbald

Perhaps the cat breed with the longest ears, everything about the Oriental cat is long. They have an elongated body which is sleek, fine and not as muscular as other cats. Their almond shaped eyes are often green in color, but their coats can be of almost any variant. The shorthair and longhair breeds only differ in terms of coat length due to recessive genes.

Long Eared Domestic Cats

They do have a pointed triangular shaped head with very long ears. They originate from England, specifically the county of Cornwall where they get their name, and are very loving cats. Find out some similarly-colored felines with our list of gray cat breeds. A lifelong cat lover she is the proud parent of two Siberian cats, Alexei and Vladimir.

Caring for Cats with Big Ears: Health and Grooming

They’re very playful, thanks to their Siamese ancestors, and have a curious nature. However, they don’t like to be left alone, so they’re better fits for semi-busy households or homes with existing pets. Even with its slender body, sleek coat, and triangular-shaped head, it sports Dumbo-like ears. This breed was developed by breeders wanting different colors of Siamese, which gives them very similar characteristics to the breed. The Peterbald is a “dog-like” cat known for their friendly and intelligent personality and their large, oversized ears.

The Ocicat breed was created by crossing Siamese and Abyssinian cats together and then later breeding with an American domestic short hair. Singapura cats have captivating little spirits, ready to steal your heart away. These lovely felines are a playful, cheeky, and friendly cat breed. You’ll often find them under a duvet cover or lying in the sunshine. This is a stylish and sleek breed with the same deep blue eyes of the Siamese – add in their gorgeous silky long coat and this is one good looking cat breed. Their sleek silky coats also highlight their proportionately large ears.

The Cornish Rex is a cat of contrast with their dainty bodies, large eyes and big, high-set ears. But don't let their delicate appearance fool you - they're anything but! Active and super playful, some Cornish Rex cats can even be taught tricks and will happily play games of fetch too.

Facts about the Javanese

The cat has beautiful emerald eyes, a silky grey/blue coat, and a lean, muscular body. Their double coats are soft and silky but straightforward to maintain. They’re friendly creatures that enjoy humans and other pets, but they aren’t clingy and like time alone to explore.

Don’t hesitate to consult your veterinarian if you have concerns about your cat’s ears or their general well-being. Moreover, large ears can also be beneficial for detecting and locating sounds, which can help cats identify prey or sense potential threats. This increased auditory perception can contribute to their success as hunters and their overall survival in the wild. If you’re considering bringing one of these incredible cats into your home, ensure you’re ready for their needs. This means both parents must carry this gene to express the trait in their offspring.

Interestingly, the Cornish Rex, with its distinctively large ears and wavy coat, can be seen as a representation of human ingenuity and the love for the unique. Originating from Cornwall, England, the breed has been a testament to the fascination for novelty and diversity within domestic animals. The Cornish Rex, with its bat-like ears, enjoys an active and outgoing nature. This breed’s coat mutation leads to a distinctive wavy fur, originating from Cornwall, England. When it comes to cats, big ears make them stand out in any crowd, bringing a touch of distinction and individuality to the household.

Big-eared cat breeds have a unique charm and appeal, making them fascinating and lovable companions. In this blog post, we’ve explored various breeds with large ears, their origins, distinguishing features, and personalities. In summary, the development of big-eared cat breeds is a combination of genetic factors, human influence, and natural advantages.

These distinct-looking cats resemble the Sphynx cat breed due to their lack of hair and large ears. The Bambino cat is the result of a cross between a Sphynx and a Munchkin cat. They are a relatively new breed, so not much is known about these cats. However most agree they are adorable cats with short legs, large eyes, and humongous ears. The Abyssinian is an affectionate breed who loves their people and is known to follow them around the house. However, they are not known as lap cats or considered a cuddly breed.

And whilst the Ashera may be one of the most expensive cat breeds in the world, they have an average life span of 25 years. Because of this hunting instinct, it’s important to look at your country and city’s ownership laws before you decide to invest in this feline. Some areas have restrictive laws because these tall cat breeds can threaten native species. This playful breed is great with families and gets on well with strangers. Many compare its personality with that of a golden retriever dog, so it’s no surprise these cats get along with golden retrievers.

A longer-haired cousin of the Siamese, the Balinese Cat is notable for large ears and a silky coat, matched with an engaging and social personality. Grooming a Persian cat is essential for keeping its coat healthy and looking its best. Regular brushing helps to reduce shedding, as well as prevent mats from forming in the fur.

They are characterized by their folded ears, which make them look like they have pointed faun-like ears. Like his cousin, the Cornish Rex, the Devon Rex also has a curly coat and large ears, which gives him a certain charm. It is the Abyssinian cat's restlessness and willfulness which means they are not the best pet for everyone. They need to be played with and cuddled or they may develop behavioral problems to express their unhappiness.

Although they’re affectionate, they also have a wild streak that gets them into trouble. Allergy sufferers may be able to tolerate the Bambino more than other breeds, but the cat is not hypoallergenic. The Bengal is arguably the best-known of the spotted domestic cat breeds. This highly active cat will enjoy spending time on top of cupboards and units or anywhere that is high off the ground.

Titanic Vs Cruise Ship Comparison Size, Cabins, And More

titanic size compared to cruise ship

The cost of a ticket on the Titanic varied based on the class of service a passenger chose. A first class suite, the epitome of luxury aboard the Titanic, would cost a passenger about $4,350, equivalent to around $133,132 today. Those who opted for a regular first class berth would have paid significantly less, around $150, which translates to about $4,591 today.

Comparing Titanic vs biggest cruise ship in the world.

The Number of Decks on the Titanic vs Cruise Ship?

One key safety measure now prioritized on cruise ships is the lifeboat drill. On the other hand, second-class staterooms provided a relatively comfortable experience with small cabins and basic decor. The rooms were more modest than the first-class cabins but provided a comfortable stay for middle-class passengers.

Titanic vs Cruise Ship: Size Comparison

Modern cruise ships tend to be much larger than the Titanic on average – not so much in length, but in width and height. The Titanic was considered more luxurious than many (but not all) modern cruise ships, but of course, was a lot less safe too. Modern ships also have a wider range of amenities and entertainment options. They have multiple swimming pools, water parks, theaters, casinos, and shopping areas. Some ships even have virtual reality experiences and skydiving simulators. The Titanic is one of the most famous ships in history, known for its tragic sinking in 1912.

What is the worlds largest cruise ship?

The ship embarked on its maiden voyage on January 27, 2024 from PortMiami. On the other hand, modern cruise ships are built with double-hull technology and multiple watertight compartments that extend up the side of the hull. These features provide better structural integrity and improve the ship’s ability to prevent flooding. Modern cruise ships, on the other hand, aim to optimize space and provide a variety of amenities. The design is more focused on functional luxury, with features that accommodate thousands of passengers and include extensive entertainment options like theaters, spas, and pools.

titanic size compared to cruise ship

Ship designers and engineers employ advanced technologies and innovative solutions to ensure these behemoths navigate the waters safely and efficiently. While larger vessels may offer enhanced stability due to their greater mass, they may also be more susceptible to external factors such as wind and waves. The Romandisea Titanic began construction in 2016 and is designed to be another replica, though this one isn’t intended to actually sail anywhere and will be permanently docked. After the sinking of the Titanic, the White Star Line, which operated the ship, merged with Cunard, which was (and still is) known for famous ships such as the Queen Mary 2. But while Cunard has no plans to revive the Titanic name, other projects around the world have attempted to do so.

The world’s biggest cruise ship Wonder of the Seas boasts 19 swimming pools on board, along with 20 restaurants. It also has a children’s water park, a spa, beauty salon and hairdressers, a theatre, an aquatic theatre, a zip line and multiple bars and suites. In contrast, modern cruise ships, while built for luxury and comfort, also have impressive speeds but prioritize a balance of efficiency and passenger experience over just speed. For instance, the Wonder of the Seas and the Icon of the Seas, two of the largest cruise ships currently in service, have top speeds of about 22 knots (25 mph/41 kph). These speeds, slightly lower than the Titanic’s, are standard for today’s cruise ships.

Satellite navigation systems ensuring precise tracking

Because of this, the Titanic would be more comparable to a cruise ship today than an ocean liner and offered amenities that other ocean liners at the time did not. Modern cruise ships offer an extensive range of culinary experiences that cater to various tastes and preferences. From fine dining restaurants helmed by renowned chefs to casual buffet-style eateries serving international cuisine, there is something for everyone on board. Passengers can savor flavors from around the world without ever having to leave the ship.

This meant that when disaster struck, there simply weren’t enough life-saving vessels to accommodate everyone on board. It’s a stark contrast to modern cruises where strict rules dictate that there must be enough lifeboats to accommodate every single passenger and crew member. These stabilizers consist of retractable fins or wings located beneath the ship’s waterline. They work by counteracting wave-induced movements to keep the ship steady, reducing the likelihood of seasickness and enhancing passenger comfort.

These ships are designed with multiple redundant systems to ensure that they are as safe as possible. For example, modern cruise ships have advanced navigation systems that use satellite technology to provide real-time information about the ship’s location and weather conditions. In contrast, today’s cruise ships are designed with ultimate luxury and passenger entertainment in mind, resembling more a miniature city than a simple ship.
